Inside Mia Restaurant: The Vegetarian-Friendly Michelin Gem In Bangkok

Tucked into the corner of the lively Sukhumvit neighbourhood, Mia Restaurant is a Michelin-starred fine dining spot renowned for its fusion of Western ingredients, Asian tastes, and techniques. The charming restaurant is housed in a contemporary two-storey building, featuring a chic bar downstairs and three uniquely designed dining rooms upstairs, each offering its own stunning ambiance.

More often than not, itโ€™s hard to find fine dining options that cater to vegetarians. Typical vegetarian fine dining options tend to be ‘tourist traps’ that overcharge for vegetarian/vegan accommodations and only offer Asian cuisines. Thatโ€™s where Mia shines โ€“ they offer refreshing vegetarian and vegan menus, proving that upscale dining can be exciting for all tastes.

Our Highlights From The Menu

Every dish is carefully paired with curated wines and beverages, elevating the dining experience to another level. What truly stood out to us wasnโ€™t just the flavour combinations but also the unique textures. Take the kale taco topped with Japanese puffed rice, apple, and curry gel โ€“ it was a burst of flavour we wonโ€™t forget! We also noticed a delicious hint of macadamia and curry gel throughout the meal, which hit the spot every time.

Prior to being presented with our dessert, we were presented a deconstruction of all of the ingredients. We found this to be an inventive touch that set the stage for Miaโ€™s signature ‘cereal bowl’. The sweetness of corn ice cream balanced beautifully with Milo cream and a crunchy homemade cereal mix โ€“ a fun finale! Itโ€™s Mia doing what they do best: unique combos and show-stopping presentations all the way through.

The Story Behind The Dishes

The meal kicked off with Miaโ€™s signature sourdough brioche โ€“ fluffy, delicious, and paired the most delectable shallot butter topped with onion ash, a unique concept that was executed beautifully. But what makes this dish extra special is the story behind it: Mia continues to use the very same starter Chef Michelle was cultivating all the way back from the chefsโ€™ first encounter in Singapore, marking the beginning of their relationship.ย  Itโ€™s a sweet touch that makes this dish even more endearing. We also couldnโ€™t get enough of their chilli oil! Our server mentioned itโ€™s such a hit that customers keep asking to buy it. Turns out, itโ€™s a family recipe passed down from the chefโ€™s grandmother โ€“ a true original. Learning these backstories really made us appreciate the sentiment that ‘food is a labour of love’.
