The Rescued Feast: CHOMP Turns Three At Soho House Hong Kong

In a city where skyscrapers graze the clouds and cuisine reaches near-mythical heights, The Rescued Feast stands out as a refreshing celebration of taste, creativity, and sustainability. Presented by CHOMP, Hong Kongโ€™s pioneering food-saving app, this event marks the app’s third anniversary and highlights the potential of turning surplus into culinary sensation. In collaboration with Soho House Hong Kong, The Rescued Feast reimagines food waste into innovative dishes, championing a crucial cause: reducing food waste in one of Asiaโ€™s most fast-paced cities.

At the centre of the event is a powerhouse chef duo: award-winning Chef May Chow, known for her inventive takes on modern Chinese cuisine, and Executive Chef Chris Czerwinski of Soho House Hong Kong. Together, they take on an exhilarating and unpredictable challenge โ€“ crafting a gourmet menu for 250 guests using only food scraps and surplus ingredients, all with just days to prepare. This spontaneous approach, a hallmark of The Rescued Feast, is where culinary skill meets sustainability. Guests can look forward to a dining experience that’s both creative and conscientious, supported by eco-minded brands like Dough Broโ€™s, TreeHouse, Bon-Eat-O, and SpiceBox Organics, which have donated fresh, unused ingredients that might otherwise have gone to waste.

The impact of this event extends far beyond the dining table. Since its 2021 launch, CHOMP has rescued nearly 100,000kg of food from entering Hong Kongโ€™s overburdened landfills, transforming potential waste into affordable โ€˜Mystery Boxesโ€™ for app users. This effort has not only prevented an impressive 200,000kg of CO2 emissions but also cultivated a community where sustainable practices are both respected and embraced. Today, CHOMP collaborates with over 250 partners, from local favourites to major names like Maximโ€™s and Levain Bakery. The appโ€™s mission to curb waste has also branched out beyond food, with partnerships across industries โ€“ from florists to skincare brands โ€“ to rescue surplus items and expand the reach of sustainable impact.
